LSMU Kaunas hospital provides level II and III inpatient and outpatient personal health care services, employs more than 3,350 employees (including about 780 doctors, 1,070 nurses). The hospital has 1,620 beds, in the pre-pandemic period (2019), more than 62,000 patients were hospitalized, over 402,000 consultations were provided, 21,500 operations were performed, and 2,870 births were admitted. The geography of the departments is wide: from the main departments located in Šilainiai and Aukštei Šančiai to the P. Mažylis and Christian Maternity Homes, which have been operating in the city center for many decades, or the V. Tumėnienė Children's Early Development Center in Vičiūnai. Outpatient and inpatient surgery, day surgery, therapy, obstetrics, gynecology, physical rehabilitation, diagnostic services for children and adults are provided in the main departments (Hipodromo St. 13 and Josvainiai St. 2). Patients are consulted in 6 polyclinic units: the Consultation Polyclinic in Šilainiai, the Skin and Venereal Diseases Polyclinic (Josvainių St. 2) and the Children's Consultation Polyclinic (Baltijos St. 120), the Consultation Polyclinic in Aukšteiši Šančiai (Hipodromo St. 13) and its branch in Garliava (Vytauto g. 63) and in the polyclinic in the city center (Laisvės al. 17). The Department of Infectious Diseases is fighting the COVID-19 epidemic on the front lines, psychiatric services are actively provided by the Psychiatry Clinics in the Marių and Aleksot sectors, nursing and supportive treatment services are provided by the Nursing Clinic in Garliava and Vičiūnai, in the city center 24/7 assistance is provided to persons who have suffered injuries, orthopedic traumatologists advise.
