Utena St. Clares Hospice was founded on September 15, 1996. Named in honor of St. Clare, a Franciscan nun who cared for the sick. The public institution was registered on February 9, 1998 by Utena District Municipality Decision No. 129, the institution's statutes were re-registered on February 2, 2012. The hospital's shareholders are Utena District Municipality and Utena Ascension Parish. Free treatment and care are provided 120 days a year to patients insured with compulsory health insurance. The hospital has 54 supportive treatment and care beds, 2 palliative care beds. The hospital employs 4 doctors, 19 nurses, 22 nursing assistants, and 3 rehabilitation workers.
