LTSA started operating in 2017. December. After the reforms that merged the Lithuanian Safe Shipping Administration, the State Road Transport Inspectorate under the Ministry of Transport and the State Railway Inspectorate, LTSA began to operate as a single unit. From 2019 LTSA is also responsible for safety in the civil aviation sector. LTSA's activities are closely related to its mission - LTSA works to make the transport system fair and road users safe: issuing licenses, certificates, operating permits, supervising transport activities, protecting the rights of passengers LTSA aims to make every transport participant responsible not only for your own safety, but also for the safety of other road users. The main tasks of the LTSA are: supervision of transport activities, provision of transport services, investigation of transport accidents, strengthening of educational campaigns and public awareness of transport safety.
