From January 1, 2013 instead of the four city district courts operating in Vilnius, there is one - the Vilnius City District Court, which is the first instance that hears cases of criminal, civil, administrative law violations (assigned to the competence of this court by law), cases assigned to the competence of mortgage judges, and cases related to the execution of judgments and sentences. District court judges also perform pre-trial investigation judges and other functions assigned to the competence of the district court by law.
