In one of the most modern cogeneration plants in Europe, electricity and heat are produced at the same time. The power plant can produce about 40 percent. of the capital's annual centralized heat demand. The remaining heat demand is met by other independent heat producers and heat suppliers. Two types of fuel are used in the power plant - non-hazardous municipal waste remaining after sorting and not suitable for processing, and also biofuel. The waste unit consists of one boiler, and the biofuel unit consists of two boilers. In addition, the Vilnius cogeneration plant can produce as much electricity per year as is sufficient to supply approximately 320,000 people. households. The power plant pays particular attention to environmental protection, which is why the most modern pollution treatment systems are used here, which correspond to the best available production methods, and in addition, continuous monitoring of emissions is ensured.
